NEC
NEC supplies government agencies and private-sector companies with a range of IT services covering systems integration, maintenance and support, and outsourcing.
D-Series arrays are used in iSCSI and Fibre Channel SANs for primary storage, high capacity secondary storage, or both in a tiered storage strategy.
D-Series arrays are well-suited for virtualized environments, cloud storage, databases, data warehouses, disk-to-disk backup, and other block-level storage applications.
D3i iSCSI SAN Storage Array
The D3i storage array provides the best value in iSCSI SAN storage through a superior combination of dependability, scalability, and efficiency at a great price.
The D3i array has many built-in features and supports NEC's enterprise-class storage software. A single D3 array can scale from just 300 GB to 288 TB capacity by adding up to eleven 2U 12-drive expansion enclosures.
Aggregate throughput of over 400 MB/s to hosts is provided through up to four 1 Gbps iSCSI Ethernet ports. These can be connected into a network or direct-connected as a simple and low-cost DAS configuration. (A Fibre Channel model is also available.) The disk enclosures are connected to the controllers via SAS wide-link connection for 24 Gbps bandwidth to each disk enclosure.
D3 Fibre SAN Storage Array
The D3 array has many built-in features and supports NEC's enterprise-class storage software. A single D3 array can scale from just 300 GB to 288 TB capacity by adding up to eleven 2U 12-drive expansion enclosures.
Aggregate throughput of over 1,100 MB/s to hosts is provided through up to twelve 4 Gbps Fibre Channel ports. These can be connected into a switched fabric SAN or direct-connected as a simple and low-cost DAS configuration. (An iSCSI model is also available.) The disk enclosures are connected to the controller via SAS wide-link connection for 24 Gbps bandwidth to each disk enclosure.
D4 SAN Storage Array
The NEC D4 modular storage array provides both Fibre Channel and iSCSI connectivity in the same array. It has many built-in features and supports NEC's enterprise-class storage software. A single D4 array can scale from just 300 GB to 288 TB capacity by adding up to eleven 2U 12-drive expansion enclosures.
Aggregate throughput of over 1,200 MB/s to hosts is provided through up to eight 8 Gbps Fibre Channel ports or up to four 10 Gbps iSCSI ports. These can be connected into a SAN or direct-connected as a simple and low-cost DAS configuration. The disk enclosures are connected to the controller via SAS wide-link connection for 48 Gbps bandwidth to each disk enclosure.
D8 SAN Storage Array
The D8 has many built-in features and supports all of the NEC enterprise class storage software capabilities. The D8 brings an innovative architecture to the mid-range that provides tremendous flexibility, resiliency, and scalability, along with Thin Provisioning for high capacity efficiency.
The "nodal" architecture with "neural cache" provides much more configuration flexibility than traditional architectures, so configurations can be tailored to your needs. There is much more hardware redundancy so even in the event of a failure, performance is not as severely impacted as it is with the traditional dual-controller architecture.

And by scaling from just a few hundred GB of data to over 3 PB, the D8 is great for storage consolidation. The cache can grow non-disruptively all the way to 128 GB from just 4 GB to meet various performance needs.
Phoenix Technology for Advanced Preventative Maintenance
Using Phoenix Technology, a disk drive causing a delay in response can be separated from the RAID pool, and a background diagnosis automatically performed. If no defects are found, the drive can be returned to the original RAID configuration without the need for switching to a hot spare disk. Phoenix technology can reduce the need to do rebuilds by up to 50%.
